Whipp News: US Amazon blocks Australia

From July 1, Australian shoppers will no longer be able to purchase goods from Amazon’s US site.

Retail giant Amazon has announced they will cancel all shipping to the land down under due to new GST rules.

The move is being praised as a win for local retailers which have lobbied hard for the 10% tax to apply to all goods purchased from offshore retailers and not just on those that are greater than $1000 in value.

If you are still wanting to shop at Amazon you can, but you will be redirected to Amazon.com.au, which stocks about 60 million products, compared to half a billion products on its US site.
