Whipp News: Ipswich Council in Crisis

The Queensland Government has sacked the entire Ipswich Council after former Mayor Andrew Antoniolli was charged with seven counts of fraud by the Crime and Corruption Commission, relating to the misuse of taxpayer money.

Antoniolli announced he was stepping down as Mayor until the case is resolved hours before Queensland’s Local Government Minister intervened. Whilst Antoniolli intends to fight the charges, an administrator will take control of the Council, and councillors will need to show cause as to why they should not be dismissed.

Eleven other people, including former Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale, have now been charged by Queensland’s corruption watchdog.
