Whipp News: Parcel Tax

A new tax on parcels could add an extra $7 to your overseas online shopping orders, with the PM saying he is not ruling it out as on option as the cost of security screening soars.

The proposal to impose the flat-rate levy on all imported parcels worth less than $1000 comes at a tricky time for the government, as it works with the cross-bench in the Senate to sell its company tax cuts while tightening welfare measures.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull refused to confirm or deny if his government is planning on introducing a parcel tax. Turnbull said, “the budget is only weeks away, so I won’t comment on the budget.”
